In April 1863, Shogun Iemochi and 3000 retainers travelled in a great procession from Edo to Kyoto. This was the first time since the visit of Iemitsu in the Kanei era, 230 years before, that a shogun had visited Kyoto. This Tokaido series, a joint production of several artists and various publishers, commemorates the occasion.
