Makoto Ouchi (1926-1989) used ukiyoe images in his etchings. As Frances Blakemore says in Who's Who in Modern Japanese Prints: Ouchi compresses the lapse of centuries in these pungent contemporary compositions and satirizes the ephemeral quality of time by the presence of butterflies and dragonflies that flutter incongruously along the edges of his work.
