Miyako dori (Oyster Catchers) swimming by reeds under falling cherry blossom petals
Tanzaku (4 1/2" X 13 1/4")
This nature study was first printed in the mid 1840's, without a censor's seal or publisher's mark. Stamped at the bottom right is the censor's seal for 6/1861 and the mark of the publisher Yamashiroya. Clearly, the blocks for the design were sold to this publisher and he has kindly indicated the exact date of this production. This is a luxury of information we don't ordinarily have for the typical Japanese print.
